Icosian Reflections

Standing Invitation

This is a standing invitation: If you want to talk about any topic that appears on my bio page, I want to talk to you. If you want to talk about anything else, ask! This invitation's scope includes but is not limited to:

  • designing more-effective clinical trials
  • mitigating catastrophic biological risks
  • increasing global pandemic preparedness
  • effective altruism
  • market design / economics research
  • quantitative trading / Jane Street (strictly in an ex-employee's capacity)
  • teaching in highly-technical contexts
  • living abroad for Americans (which I have done, in multiple countries, from 2018 through 2023)
  • Harvard courses
  • making art with cellular automata...

I like getting email. Some people don't, but I do -- and I have never, not once, regretted getting email from a founder, student, aspiring EA, or person interested in any of the above. There are some topics that I'm not comfortable talking about over email, but if you ask about one of them I'll say that and I promise I won't think less of you for asking.

I especially like reading things! If you write something worth reading, I'd be very happy for you to tell me. The worst thing that has happened -- or will happen -- is that I don't read it.

Even in cases where I'm excited to connect over a video call, I prefer to do introductions and set expectations over email first.

If you feel like you'd like to read more advice for sending cold email, try this or this or this.

Here is where this page used to give my email address. Regretfully, I have received a very few inquiries from members of the media which I did not appreciate receiving, so I'm going to ask you to jump through one (1) hoop.

This form goes straight to my inbox and skips spam. By pressing "send", you are representing that you are not as a member of the press. If you do happen to be a journalist but are writing in for reasons unrelated to your work, please make that clear at the top of your message.
